On April 7, 2021, just two years after the company’s inception, Polestar leadership initiated the Polestar 0 project, dedicated to eliminating all emissions through the life of its vehicles, from supply chain to production, deliveries, and even the vehicle’s end-of-life, along with full transparency reporting of its progress. The timeline would be just nine years, targeted for 2030.
The company’s first vehicle was the Polestar 1, a premium performance PHEV coupe, built from 2019 to 2022 in a limited run of just 1,500 vehicles. It featured a turbocharged 2.0L engine with two electric motors for 619hp and carbon fibre reinforced polymer body panels.
Polestar’s second car was a full BEV – The Polestar 2. It was a four-door sedan that debuted in 2020.
You guessed it; the Polestar 3 was the automaker’s first luxury, all-electric SUV, with production starting in 2024.
The Polestar 4 started production for North America in 2025 in South Korea. Despite it being designed to slot in between the 2 and 3 in size, the numerical nomenclature is based on the date of introduction.
